Volans Single Barrel Reposado embarks on an adventurous journey into the vast possibilities of Reposado tequila. The 2023 Single Barrel Release is a testament to the comprehensive research and unwavering commitment to the art of selecting and aging barrels.

Over the years, we have dived deep into the world of barrels, engaging in enriching conversations with our Master Distiller, Felipe Camarena. As a seasoned expert in barrel selection and maintenance, Felipe shared his insights on his choice of barrels, maintenance strategies, and invaluable experiences before founding El Pandillo. This exploration into barrels, enriched by our studies on cooperages and discussions with distributors about their bourbon preferences, reaffirmed our belief that the art of barrels is as complex as it is fascinating.

Three pivotal factors influenced the barrel selection for this release:

• Ensuring the spirit’s exceptional quality
• Leveraging the cooperage’s expertise in selecting and crafting the barrel
• The specific origin of the wood

These guiding principles were essential for achieving an exceptional aged expression.

For the 2023 release, we sourced ten freshly emptied barrels, mainly American white oak, complemented by a few French and German oak barrels. Previously hosting bourbon and select California wines, these barrels were filled with Volans Tequila at 45% ABV. After four months and 23 days of maturation, we were left with ten uniquely distinct barrels of Reposado, marking a new milestone in our craft.

Despite the uniform origin of the blanco tequila, each barrel reveals a unique interpretation of Reposado tequila. This diversity highlights the profound impact of barrel selection and aging on the tequila, inviting connoisseurs to explore the distinctive beauty and character inherent in each of the ten barrels.
